LTI Integration Setup - U.S. Schools

Written by Technical Team

This guide connects Kritik to Schoology with LTI 1.3. A Schoology system administrator can complete it in about 10 minutes. Once it's done, Kritik appears in each course's menu, and instructors and students open it with their Schoology sign-in.

Schoology doesn't support dynamic registration, so you'll create the app manually. Before you start, sign in to Schoology with an administrator account.

Step 1: Click the App Center icon (the second icon in the top-right bar), then "App Center":

Step 2: Click "My Developer Apps" at the top of the page, next to the "App Center" title:

Step 3: Click "Add App":

Step 4: Enter the following and click "Submit":

  • App Name: Kritik

  • Description: Kritik peer assessment (required, shown only in your App Center)

  • Category: choose any one (required)

  • Type of App: LTI 1.3 App

  • Launch app in Schoology: Check

  • Can be installed for: Courses > Left Navigation and Course Materials Selection

  • Configuration Type: Manual

  • Privacy: Send Name and Email/Username of user who launches the tool

  • LTI Advantage Extensions: Deep Linking, Assignment and Grade Services and Names and Roles Services

  • Tool Public Key: skip

  • Terms of Use: Check

Schoology then shows an OAuth consumer key and secret. Kritik doesn't use them, so there's nothing to copy here.

Step 5: Next to your new app, click "Options", then "API Info":

Step 6: Copy the "Client ID" under LTI 1.3 App:

Step 7: Next to your new app, click "Install LTI 1.3 App", then choose "Add to Organization" and follow the prompts:

Step 8: Go back to the App Center (as in step 1) and click "Organization Apps", next to "My Developer Apps". Then click "Install/Remove" next to your app, check All Courses and click "Submit":

Step 9: Send these 2 values to lms@kritik.io:

That's it! We'll reply to confirm your school is connected. You can then test that everything works as expected: create a course, add Kritik to it, launch as an instructor, do a roster sync and launch as a student.

If you change the app's settings later, click "Install/Remove" next to Kritik and "Submit" again so your courses pick up the change. Questions? Email lms@kritik.io.
