Kritik Coding Authorship Syllabus Insert

This semester, we will be using Kritik Coding Authorship for selected coding assignments. Coding Authorship is designed to help you learn and demonstrate your coding process while giving you the flexibility to use AI responsibly as part of your learning.

About Coding Authorship

Kritik Coding Authorship is an application that allows you to write, run, and submit code while keeping a record of your work as you develop it. This gives you and your instructor greater visibility into how your code was created.

Coding Authorship helps you understand and reflect on your use of AI by providing insight into:

The goal is not to prevent you from using AI. Instead, the goal is to help you develop the skills to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly while demonstrating your own understanding of the concepts being assessed.

For this course, you will write and run your code using Visual Studio Code (VS Code), a free and widely used code editor. In addition, you must install and enable the Kritik extension in VS Code, which is required for Coding Authorship assignments.

Stage 1: Create — Complete your coding assignment using VS Code with the Kritik extension enabled and the Coding Authorship workflow. Follow the assignment instructions and rubric, write, run, and test your code in VS Code. Your coding activity and AI interactions will be recorded as part of your submission.

Stage 2: Evaluate — Depending on the assignment, you may anonymously review and evaluate your peers' code using the provided rubric. You will assess their work and provide constructive feedback. This will happen in the Kritik application.

Stage 3: Feedback — You will receive written evaluations from your peers and will have an opportunity to reflect on the feedback you received.

AI use in this course will follow the guidelines provided by your instructor. When AI use is permitted, you are expected to use it as a learning tool rather than as a replacement for your own thinking.

You should be able to explain, evaluate, and take responsibility for the code you submit, including code that was generated or modified with AI.

Your instructor may use Coding Authorship information to better understand your work and to support conversations about your learning and use of AI. AI-generated code is not automatically considered misconduct; the expectations for AI use will be defined by your instructor and the course's academic integrity policy.

Coding Authorship is designed to make the coding process more transparent. Your instructor can see information about how your submission was created, including your coding activity and interactions with AI tools within the Coding Authorship environment.

This information is used to support learning, assessment, and academic integrity in accordance with your institution's policies.
