How do I use Writing Authorship Editor to Compose my Assignment?

Writing Authorship Tracking is designed to be a modern, easy-to-use editor with extra features to help you make the most of AI in your assignments.

The editor includes several tools in the right sidebar to support your writing process:

AI Assistant

This tab allows you to use our built-in AI Assistant. You may choose to use our default AI model or choose one of, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, or Google's Gemini. Note that your instructor may disable the AI Assistant if no AI content is allowed for an assignment. In that case, the AI Assistant will not be available to use.

Note: There are pre-configured intro prompts that you may choose to send, or you may type your own prompt.

Editor

This is where you’ll write your assignment. It provides a clean, distraction-free workspace for you to focus on your work.

Note: To open or close the right sidebar, you may click the Editor icon.

Self Reflection

If a self reflection is required for your activity, the self-reflection questions will appear under the Self Reflection icon.

History

The History icon allows you to watch your revision history and restore a revision if desired. Note that when viewing a previous revision, there will be Insights for that revision.

Note: When viewing the History tab, your document goes to read only mode. To get out of read only mode, you must click a different sidebar icon.

Sources

Any references added to your document will appear under the Sources icon.

Note: To add a reference you may click the Add Reference icon that appears in the top of the editor.

Once a reference is added here, it will appear under the Sources sidebar.

Comments

This tab shows a history of any comments related to pasted content, making it easy to track external sources used in your work.

Understanding the Insights Tab

This tab offers helpful analytics about your assignment:

  • Authenticity: The percentage of content that is typed directly into the editor.

  • AI Content: The percentage of content in your assignment that was directly inserted from Kritik's AI Assistant into the editor.

Note: Your professor can set a maximum percentage of how much AI content is allowed for an assignment. The maximum percentage set will appear in the top of the editor. For example: AI content: 0%/50% means you have 0% AI content and the max set for the assignment is 50% AI content.

  • Pasted Content: The percentage of content you’ve copied from external sources. If pasting content into the Writing Authorship editor, students need to source it and provide a comment explaining the source and why it’s relevant.

Note: Your professor can set a maximum percentage of how much pasted content is allowed for an assignment. The maximum percentage set will appear in the top of the editor. For example: Pasted content: 0%/50% means you have 0% pasted content and the max set for the assignment is 50% pasted content.

  • Original: The percentage of content that is typed directly into the editor. Originality score decreases with pasted content and AI content.

Note: AI Revised content does not decrease originality score.

  • AI Revised: The percentage of your work that was highlighted and replaced with new revised content that is longer than 12 characters.

Note: This does not lower the Authenticity or Originality score. AI Revised content includes operating-system writing tools such as Apple's Intelligence Writing Tools, Windows/Edge Copilot rewrite, or Android Gboard Writing Tools.

  • Time: The total time you've spent working on the assignment.

Note: The “Time” metric only tracks active typing time. This means the timer runs when you are actively writing or editing your work in the editor.

If you leave the tab open but are not typing, that time will not be counted.

  • Word Count: The total number of words in your composition.
